I'm not driving anymore.
Yes, you guessed right, I got in an accident today. Not a bad one, no injuries, and I don't really think it was my fault, but accidents seem to find me no matter what I do, or how carefully I drive. This time, I think my brakes went out.
I was on the freeway earlier today, and someone cut in front of me. I put the brakes on hard (didn't quite slam them on), and they made a really weird grinding and pulsing noise. I don't have ABS. So they shouldn't have pulsed.
Anyway, on my way to work today I was at the part of I70 where it splits into I70 West and I71 North. It's one of the worst areas for traffic in central Ohio, with people zig zagging, trying to get in the correct lane. Traffic is always really bad.
I was in the far left lane, and a semi-truck cut in front of the SUV in front of me. Luckily traffic was kind of slow, and we were only going about 50mph. The truck slammed his brakes on, the guy in the SUV in front of me slammed his on, and I slammed mine on. Unfortunately, mine didn't work very well, because I went right into the back of the SUV. Needless to say, the semi-truck driver had no idea he casused an accident, and kept right on going.
We were both fine, and he said he couldn't see any damage to his car, other than a loose bolt on the bumper, but my hood was bent, and my bumper cracked. Luckily the radiator was fine, so the car is drivable. But one more citation on my driving record means high-risk insurance.
I felt so bad for the guy I hit. He's a college student in Indiana, and he lives in Maryland. He was on his way back to school, and had planned to stop for food and a bathroom break in a few minutes. Until I hit him, that is. When I asked if he was ok, he said yes, except he needed to pee really bad. :) He was so nice about the whole thing. I doubt he's even going to file a claim with my insurance company.
*sigh* What a Friday. And now my back is starting to hurt. Anybody got any Advil?
